  1. Who am I? I am Self-ish.

    06.22.2011 by Shannon

Currently working on Self-ish, my new solo show. In research gathering phase. Wanna participate? Click here to let me know who are you and how do you know?

A little blurb about the still-being-created show to whet your appetite:

In order to become a superhero, X first needs an identity: “Superman can’t be Superman without a Clark Kent,” so she goes to Earth to find one in a kind of “superhero vision quest.”

Hoping that the people of Earth can help point the way, X begins asking everyone she meets about what this crazy little thing called a“me” is. With tones both savvy and innocent, Self-ish is about X’s quest to attain Superhero-hood in a journey that explores how we all come to discover and understand how we know who we are.

As background research for the show, performer Gray quit her job, changed her name and physical appearance, and is conducting hundreds of interviews—continuing through closing night of the show—asking two seemingly simple questions: who are you, and how do you know? (You, too, can take part at:http://www.whoareyouhowdoyouknow.com/)

    Self-ish is being presented as a work-in-progress. (Aren’t we all…)

    * * *

Gray is an Oakland-based performance artist and writer. It has been said of her: “She is not an ordinary human being… She has the spunk of Punky Brewster, the mind of General Patton, and the awkward neuroticism of Woody Allen. She is lively, honest — full of piss and vinegar.” (Scott Lifton, producer of Mortified SF)

    (More info on Gray here).

  12. Looking for SF Sublet Starting Jan. 1

    11.02.2009 by Shannon

Looking for a temporary sublet/room to rent/month-to-month studio in SF starting Jan. 1 for a minimum of 2-3 months. Any leads?

And then, I promise, more posts.

    (Promise.)

  13. NKS Revamp

    10.24.2009 by Shannon

Finally found a pretty-&-clean design template that can accommodate posts, projects, pages and pics (not to mention easy commenting just for you ,Gigi).

With the new install I uncovered ghost pages I forgot even existed, including a “projects” page, which reminded me of the original purpose of this whole blog fiasco: to do “exercises in both writing and life, through the embarkation upon Projects intended to entertain, enlighten and challenge both author and reader.”

Please be patient as I continue to tweak-&-update for your optimum reading pleasure. Your patience will be duly rewarded with a brand new incarnation of Not Keeping Score.

  14. Hacks Patched, Still Dim

    09.22.2009 by Shannon

Phew! We’re back in business — with NKS and  shannondejong.com, sites have been cleaned and free of malicious maliciousness.

And hey: it only took me 9 hours to fix! A word of advice: update your software & security stuffs. OFTEN. And unless you know what you’re doing, don’t mess with your 404 files. Hell, I don’t even know what 404 files are. (Probably shouldn’t have deleted them)…

My Phoenix/Tempe show for BURST is this Friday & Saturday. The good news is, I have a website up. The bad news is, I still don’t have a lighting tech… or lights for that matter.

I’m wingin’ it on faith, baby.

  15. Hack.ed

    by Shannon

    I’ve been hacked.

My performance site (www.shannondejong.com) and NKS (this site) were hacked into and I’m still recovering the integrity of the former. In the meantime, all BURST inquiries are referred to: MADCAP Theaters and for tickets click here.

    Thanks for the patience.

  16. Design Transition

  18. A Simple, True Update

    07.21.2009 by Shannon

I’ve been dragging my feet on posting, mainly because so much change is going on, I don’t exactly know where to start. That, and my ebbing/flowing anxiety about writing something somewhat entertaining/interesting/readable prevents me from posting until I have an “angle” (thank you CCSF Journalism 10A class).

Aborting that, I will simply write something mediocre/simple/true. (more…)

  19. David Bromige (1933-2009)

    06.12.2009 by Shannon

It is with extreme sadness and spiked loss that I mention the passing of my friend and mentor, David Bromige.  I wanted to be able to write a great spread of prose or poetry, honoring his sharp wit, playful creativity, and a life in words.

But for now, I will just provide this link and some quotes I captured during our lazy days writing poetry in the garden of his Sebastopol home… because sometimes things need time to sink in before the words come.

My love and support to his family Cecilia, Maggie & Chris.

  20. Take My Stuff- Please!

    12.18.2008 by Shannon

    Dear Online Friends,

Admit it: you probably won’t get what you want for Christmas this year. Or, maybe you just can’t seem to find that perfect gift for someone you love. I have the answer!

I am selling / giving away a bunch of my stuff in order to head back to Vietnam in the new year to write, meditate, teach. I need to get rid of most of this stuff, but a little extra money toward plane tickets wouldn’t be so bad either. So here’s the deal: you can take anything you like, just make a donation as you see fit. Otherwise — take, take!

Some of the things I’m purging are: (more…)
